Pain, Anxiety and Boredom

The installations that conceptually responded to the experience of researching in hospitals was titled Pain, Anxiety and Boredom. This solo exhibition was site specific for the Dungeons beneath The Sydney College of the Arts in August 2009.

The site of the exhibition created a haunting ambience to exhibit 18th and 19th century medical devices in enclosed cells. It provided the perfect backdrop to project four video installations and suspend a series of patient's gowns from butchers hooks.

The exhibition referenced the work of Bruce Nauman, Bill Viola and Honoré Daumier to produce an awareness of the pain, anxiety and boredom experienced in hospitals.

Following is the DVD of the exhibition recorded and produced by Jillian Gates.
